Group Therapy at Sunrise Psychology NY

Group Therapy in Westchester County & New York (Telehealth Available)

Group therapy offers something individual therapy simply can't — the experience of being truly witnessed by others who understand what you're going through. At Sunrise Psychology NY, we offer small, carefully facilitated groups for specific concerns. Our groups combine evidence-based approaches with genuine peer connection, in a safe and confidential space.

Starting this Fall

Supportive Grief Group-Facilitated by Sedef Orsel, LCSW

Who it's for:

This group is for adults 25 and older who have lost a loved one — whether recently or long ago. You may be here because you feel alone in your grief, because others expect you to be "over it" by now, or simply because you don't know what to do with what you're carrying. You may even be unsure about joining a group — that's completely normal, and you are welcome here either way.

About this group:

Grief is a natural response to loss. Although we don't choose to experience it, we can choose to connect and heal in community. This bereavement group offers a supportive, confidential space to share, reflect, and begin moving forward — at your own pace, alongside others who truly understand. It is a closed group, meaning no new members join once the group begins, creating a safe, predictable, and consistent space from the very first session.

What you can expect:

  • A respectful community to witness your grief journey

  • Education on grief and grief-related reactions

  • Skills for naming feelings and regulating difficult emotions

  • A space to learn the difference between empathy and sympathy — and to practice asking for what you need

Group Details:

📅 TBD, likely Friday or Saturday

📍 Virtual via secure telehealth, open to in-person based on interest

🗓 8 weeks — closed group

💰 $80 per session + intake fee

Gut Feelings: A Support & Skills Group for Young Adults with IBD Facilitated by Hanna Cohen, Psy.D.

Who it's for:

This group is for adults in their 20s and 30s living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) — Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis — who are looking to connect with others who get it, and to build real tools for the parts of this illness that go beyond the gut. If you've felt dismissed, exhausted by the unpredictability of your symptoms, or like no one quite understands the full picture of what it means to live in your body, this group was designed with you in mind.

About this group:

Living with IBD means navigating not just physical symptoms, but the fear, hypervigilance, and emotional weight that so often come with them — and often, doing it more alone than it has to be. Gut Feelings is an ongoing support and skills group: a place to connect with peers who understand this specific kind of exhausting, explore the parts of life IBD touches that don't always get airtime elsewhere — body image, relationships, identity, and more — and build evidence-based tools drawn from Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and GI-focused CBT as they're useful to you. This group is not a replacement for your medical care — it works alongside it.

What you can expect:

  • Connect to community — meet others with shared experience in a group that breaks down stigma and helps you feel less alone

  • Explore themes — rotating topics covering the areas of life IBD touches beyond the gut: body image, dating and relationships, family dynamics, identity, work and school pressure, and more

  • Learn & practice skills as needed — evidence-based tools from PRT and GI-CBT, including somatic tracking and safety reappraisal, woven in where they're useful rather than delivered as a fixed curriculum

  • Manage symptoms — build a working understanding of the gut-brain connection and how stress shapes IBD symptoms

Group Details:

👤👤 Individuals in their 20s-30s with IBD diagnosis (Crohn's or UC) looking to connect

📅 Day & Time: TBD — reach out to express interest

📍 Virtual via secure telehealth

🗓 Ongoing semi-closed group, new members welcome roughly every 6-8 weeks

💰 Cost: $80 per session + intake fee
